First Impressions: The Black Keys - Brothers
The infamous duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have brought us some down and dirty garage blues. With Brothers, the guys add a little soul to their body of work, opting for tender falsettos and accenting instrumentation (see: "The Only One" and "Black Mud"). There's still plenty of heartbreak and longing in the tunes, whether pledging to learn their lesson in "Next Girl" or airing out their eerie uncertainty in "Too Afraid To Love You". If you're feeling blue or just need a record to throw back some beers on your porch to, The Black Keys are still a go-to...its just that Brothers has amped up the smarts without losing the edge, a surefire sign of already excellent artists getting that much better.
