The Hangover

Nursing a headache with a couple of buddies, wanted to just relax and go see a movie last night. Feeling particularly empathetic, we checked out the newest hyped comedy The Hangover.

Simply put the story revolves around four buddies going to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. The group includes the soon-to-be-married Doug (Justin Bartha), the traditional good-guy, and his three friends: Phil (Bradley Cooper), a douchebag, anti-marriage school teacher, Stu (Ed Helms), a whipped, clean-cut dentist, and Alan (Zach Gilafanakis), Doug's odd soon-to-be brother-in-law. After a night of drinking, Phil, Stu, and Alan wake up to find out they have no recollection of the last night and Doug has disappeared 29 hours before he's wedding. The guys begin to put the pieces of the night together hoping it will lead them back to Doug. Hilarious realizations are made including that Stu, who is wrapped around the finger of his bitchy, no-fun girlfriend, has married a hooker (Heather Graham), the crew have lost Alan's dad's treasured Mercedes and replaced it with a police car, and finally the discovery of both a baby and a tiger in their hotel room that no one knows to whom either belong. So begins their quest to put all the pieces of their night in Sin City together and find Doug, hopefully alive, so they can get home for the wedding.

To be honest, I had pretty high expectations of this movie. Just from the previews I thought it would be a classic. Frankly put, this movie exceeded my expectations. I was laughing non-stop through the entire film at the unbelievable and sometimes extremely shocking situations the gang gets into. Ed Helms, who I only really knew from his role in The Office is great, although his character sometimes comes off as a more vulgar version of Andy Bernard. Bradley Cooper does a nice job of playing the role of a dick, also taking the straight man title to the other guys offering up some of the best moments. The film's star, without a doubt, is Zach Gilafanakis. Taking the character in the direction of someone who is a little "off", Gilafanakis makes every line funny and really is the driving force behind the moive. Great cameos by Ken Jeong, Mike Tyson, and Mike Epps also provide the movie with great side characters.

This summer looks good in the comedy department, but I feel very confident in saying that this will be the crown jewel of them all. Go check it out
