Judging from the two songs we've already heard off it--"Simple Song" and "September"--Port of Morrow on March 20th is going to prove James Mercer's return to The Shins moniker a wise decision. The only weakness really identifiable in them is that they where perhaps a bit too minimalistic or restrained. Now add the lush thumping of "The Rifle's Spiral" to the arsenal (no pun intended,) and it immediately buffs up the album's ability to boast a well-rounded sound. An end of the year list candidate already? Damn.
