Bethany Cosentino returns with her Best Coast pals for their revamped sophomore LP
The Only Place next week. It sticks along the same surf-rock/break-up lyric formula as debut
Crazy For You, but new producer Jon Brion (Kanye West, Fiona Apple, Of Montreal) shines by adding enough ingenuity to spice up the sound. There are still plenty of woah-ohs, but used more to complement complex harmonies than to drone along with reverb-heavy fuzz. And Cosentino herself sounds--hate using the m-word--far more mature, supplanting her previous snotty whining with crisp, fresh vocals. Check it out for yourself at the link below, shouts to
